Today, near the village of Mayaki, Odessa region, a Russian strike drone hit a civilian car on the only highway connecting Odessa with the south of the region. As a result of the attack, a woman was killed, and her three children were injured and taken to the hospital.
Details of the incident
The head of the Odessa regional military administration, Oleh Kiper, reported that the incident occurred on a bridge on the Odessa-Reni highway. After the attack, traffic on this road was temporarily halted in both directions.
Comments and official statements
Oleh Kiper called the attack a "cynical war crime against the civilian population." He urged drivers to refrain from traveling through the Mayaki area on the Dniester, as this route has been repeatedly shelled.
The spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, Ihor Perehniak, added that due to Russian drone attacks, access to checkpoints on the border with Moldova is complicated, although they remain open. "We ask drivers to refrain from traveling to the incident area," Perehniak emphasized.
Context of the situation
The Russian attack occurred after numerous shellings of the bridge through Zatoka, which forced the closure of other routes to the south of the Odessa region. The situation remains tense, as the damaged bridge goes through Moldova in a small section, complicating transportation links.
It should be noted that similar attacks have already caused the suspension of operation of several checkpoints on the Ukrainian-Moldovan border.
