On the night of today, February 7, 2026, the Russian Federation carried out a massive missile and drone attack on Ukraine, targeting energy facilities, particularly in the city of Burshtyn in the Ivano-Frankivsk region, as well as on key population centers in Western Ukraine.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the enemy launched hundreds of kamikaze drones "Shahed" and cruise missiles, attempting to destroy critical energy infrastructure. The main targets of the attack were "DTEK" enterprises, including the Burshtyn Thermal Power Plant.
At 3:00 AM, alarms began to sound in the regions as missiles and drones were launched over the territories of Vinnytsia, Lviv, Ternopil, Chernivtsi, Rivne, and Zakarpattia regions. Emergency services started implementing emergency power outages in Kyiv and other cities due to the threat of strikes.
According to monitoring services, prior to the attack, the Ukrainian Air Force indicated a high danger and the possibility of missile strikes in Burshtyn, Vinnytsia, and Lviv, which led to numerous explosions in the mentioned cities as well as in the regional centers.
“The Russian Federation does not cease its attempts to destroy Ukraine's energy infrastructure by striking during the coldest periods,” noted Air Force representative Vitaliy Chervonenko.
The attack adversely affected the energy grid, which is particularly critical during the winter period when millions of people depend on stable electricity supply and heating. The situation remains tense, and restoration work can only begin after the security situation stabilizes.
Officials are urging the population to remain in shelters and adhere to safety measures as the danger of new attacks continues.
