Today, November 25, the Orthodox holiday Klim Cold is celebrated in Ukraine, dedicated to Saint Pope Clement I, who lived in the 1st century. He was a disciple of the Apostle Peter and became one of the seventy apostles. In honor of Clement I, prayers are offered for protection against diseases and the winter cold.
According to folk customs, the day is called Klim Cold, as the first true frosts begin around this time. Today, believers focus on cleaning their homes, preparing food, and other calm activities. It is important to remember that the Christmas fast continues, so eating fish and using oil is allowed.
Prohibitions and Customs of the Day
Church traditions for this day forbid anger, envy, laziness, and offense. It is not recommended to refuse help to those in need. Furthermore, it is believed that lending money or borrowing today should be avoided: according to tradition, such money is not returned quickly and can spoil relationships.
Folk signs for November 25 can indicate what the winter will be like: if it snows, spring will come late; if it rains, a quick warming is expected. It is also said that thoughts on this day will be decisive for the following year.
This day also commemorates other saints: Peter, the Archbishop of Alexandria, and Saint Peter of Galatia. According to the old calendar, believers celebrate the icon of the Mother of God "Merciful" as well.
Don't forget to congratulate your acquaintances on their name day, as they celebrate their angel's day: Andriy, Vasyl, Viktor, Hryhoriy, Dmytro, Ivan, Mykola, Oleksandr, Pavlo, Petro, Semen, and Yaroslav.
