Details: The diplomat emphasized that providing air defense is extremely important, and Germany is the largest partner of Ukraine in this area. He also noted that the assistance provided is insufficient.
"At the moment, we have already delivered nine IRIS-T systems, and we expect new supplies in the near future," the ambassador noted.
Thomas also reminded that at the end of 2025, Germany provided Ukraine with two additional Patriot complexes and continues to supply ammunition for air defense systems.
"I realize that this is not enough. As I have already mentioned, I live here and understand the situation, I know the realities. But we are doing everything possible to support Ukraine – both through assistance to the energy sector and through the provision of air defense means," Thomas added.
Background:
- The CEO of Diehl Defence, Helmut Rauch, reported in January that Ukraine ordered 18 air defense systems IRIS-T from his company.
- On January 27, Germany's Defense Minister Boris Pistorius called on allies to intensify support for Ukraine's air defense, as Berlin has few options left for this.
