The head coach of the national basketball team of Ukraine Ainars Bagatskis commented on his team's successful performance in the qualifying match for the World Championship 2027, which took place in Tbilisi. The Ukrainian basketball players defeated the Georgian team with a score of 92:79, demonstrating a powerful game in the second half of the match.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Bagatskis noted that the team was aware of the opponent's strength: "Georgia, especially playing at home, is the favorite. At the beginning of the match, we did not execute many of our agreements, but gradually, with aggression, familiar approaches, and energy in fast breaks, we were able to change the course of the game." He emphasized the importance of rebounds in the second half of the match, which allowed for fast attacks.
Point guard Oleksandr Koval, who became one of the key players, said: "Our main task was to stop their leaders, and my teammates performed this task excellently. We started to convert our shots, which led us to victory. For me, the role of a leader is a great honor and responsibility." It is noteworthy that Koval scored 31 points during the match, which was a decisive factor in the victory.
The next match for the Ukrainian team will take place on November 30 at the "Xiaomi Arena" in Riga, where they will nominally host the Danish team.
