Kazakhstan figure skater Mikhail Shaidorov showcased his best performance at the 2026 Olympic Games. In the short program, he secured fifth place, earning 92.94 points. The athlete mentioned that he managed to overcome the nerves that always accompany participation in such competitions.
“It was very nerve-wracking. The Olympic Games are different from other championships. Therefore, it was difficult, but I wanted to show my best result,” said Shaidorov. He also shared that his performances during training went perfectly, which gave him confidence against his competitors.
Chances for a medal
He is now preparing for the free program scheduled for February 13. Shaidorov, like other Kazakh athletes, will participate in the medal contention today, hoping to surpass his results.
Experts believe that Shaidorov's chances for a medal remain realistic, despite being behind the competition leader—American Ilya Malinin, who scored 108.16 points.
